Sgt Jonathan Derick Bartin was a veteran of both the Pendulum wars and Locust-human war. He has been the leader of Gamma-eight for most of his military career. John is a distant person as his squad is always made of new recruits since each member of the squad has died in the heat of battle. The member of his squad has been changing since the Pendulum wars. He has refused every promotion he was offered after the massacre of his military family so he can stay close to the front-lines to avenge them. His only times that he has shown care or sadness is to his girlfriend, and the dead. After the sinking of Jacinto he has gained utter hatred for the locust and goes into a berserking rage when he sees one.
