Like any other kid his age, John was extremely fascinated with the COG army while growing up. John's dad was in the infantry division for the COG army, so he didn't really get to see his dad often, and when he did, it was brief. Once when John was 12, his dad took him and his younger brother, Alex, to a COG base, and taught them everything needed to know about the base, from the weapons locker to Engineering. Later that same month, John's father became missing with a handful of others. John was confused because he knew his father wouldn't leave them like that, later he and his mother were visited by some COG officers. The officers talked to their mom and gave his brother their father's COG tags. John was heart broken and didn't speak for weeks. As John got older, he decided to teach Alex how to shoot, just as his father tought him. John tought Alex with their father's snub pistol, teaching him how to reload fast and how to aim. By the age of 19, he decided to join the COG army with his brother.
