The setting you described reminds me alot of the River map...which is an fun map to play horde on. Anyway, the event (although brief) is very plausible, and I had long figured that some veterans were offended by the decision to unleash the Hammer Assualt. There was bound to be some animosity towards the COG from the events thereof.
The writing was fine, and the pace was a smooth transition, just short...but since it's part of a "series" (please correct me if I'm wrong), I believe it'll work out for the better.
Anyway, I hope you continue to update the series, spreading out events, peice at a time, while gradually developing the characters and how they relate to those events...it'll be something new and a nice change of pace on the site here, so kudos!

- Actually, it was based on playing Horde on River! Initially, I was just writing a short story to escape continual Halo dreams, but the potential for more stories is there. The one I was talking about will definitely be a more substantial block of text, but hey, glad you like it!
